Simplicity and repose are the qualities that measure the true value of any work of art
- Frank Lloyd Wright
I kind of guessed that coming to Tokyo in the hottest (and most humid) part of the year would have a big impact on the kind of style we’d see - and even to some extent the amount of style on the streets. It’s very noticeable (and a bit obvious when I actually think about it) the direct correlation between the weather and style, like there’s no denying that the best style is in Autumn-Winter-Spring, partly due to the need for layering, partly due to more of a focus on wearing more clothes to cope with the weather and alternating outfits enough to get the variety in there. Whereas Summer time - hot weather, humidity - I suppose people just want to relax, chill out, have fun, take it easy, wear less, not really fuss too much.
So, I figure now that I can’t walk round going “it’s not complex enough/there aren’t enough layers or details/I want more of what I saw early/later in the year”, because it’s less likely to happen, even in a place like Tokyo. Keep it simple, it’s enough for summertime.
