It was like being in the eye of a hurricane. You’d wake up in a concert and think, Wow, how did I get here?
- John Lennon
It’s quite easy when travelling to get to a point where you get used to it a bit and start to feel kind of homely - you know your way around, you know how to get stuff done, you know basically how to interact with people. And I think that can lead to having a sense of normality about it all. But at the same time, every now and then it seems like everything suddenly stops and you go “far out, where am I! I’m in _________!” It’s pretty much happened to me almost every place I’ve gone and I love it - it’s like an awakening to the fact that you’d almost forgotten that you’re travelling to another land.
And I think that really comes across when I do this too, being on the street taking photographs - like I suddenly get these hits of “I’m running round these different countries taking photos of people!”. It’s cool!
