You make your own chance
- Ëlodie
Hi Ëlodie, how are things? You’re a fashion illustrator based in Paris, France, is that right?
Yes absolutely! I’ve lived and worked in Paris since 2010 !
What’s it liked living in Paris? I think it’s fair to say that it’s one of the most significant cities when it comes to Fashion, a true Fashion Capital - do you get a feel for that living there?
Yes of course, Paris is a city where you feel that anything can happen! Always a new insolite restaurant to discover, a new show, exhibition to attend, etc… And of course a lot of great places for shopping!!!
I love Paris for it’s story, it’s architecture and it’s culture too. You can feel that this city has a real soul. My only regret is that I don’t have time to visit everything!!!
And how would you describe your illustration style? If I take a look across your portfolio you seem to like working with a strong sense of complimenting colour tones that otherwise give quite realistic illustrations a touch of fantasy - is that how you’d describe them?
I think other people are better than me to describe my work, but I can say that the most important things for me is that my illustrations express something warm mostly in the eyes of the characters and the textures, etc… Then I attach a lot of importance as well to the colors. I spend a lot of time to adjust the colors (which are most of the time a bit faded, like vintage) which you can tell on the illustration I made for La Mode Outré even though the model wore a grey outfit!
You’ve had works published in a number of well known publications, including French Cosmopolitan and Elle Quebec, plus you’ve had several exhibitions in different countries - do you feel like you’ve achieved something already, or are you just getting started?
I definitely feel like I’m just getting started! I wish I could work for some great fashion or cosmetics brand, and also have more exhibitions!!!
Do you have any key projects or illustration ambitions that you’d like to work towards?
As I said before, I would love to work for some great fashion brand such as Gucci, Chanel, Balmain, Carven, etc… or some luxe cosmetic brand.
And finally, do you have a particular quote or saying that really defines who you are and what you do?
