For some reason it’s hard to find a lot of women to photograph in Tokyo. It seems to be a lot of girly, wacky, frilly style or else vintage, modest, grandma-ish style. It feels a lot like the ‘sexy, stylish and fashionable woman’ look, the one that has a mature, cultured, vivacious and independent feel/attitude about it is few and far between and I’m not really sure why. Maybe everyone wants to be girly and kawaii (I hate that word, sorry), and when they’re bored and over that, they just want to be old and vintage.
But then again, I’m not Japanese or female, so what they hell would I know about it anyway. Plus this is a man’s view of course. In any case, getting to photograph one of something, even if I want to photograph ten or twenty or thirty, that’s still better than none, right?
I was just on the way home, walking back down Omotesando from Aoyama when I saw this gentleman near the Fendi boutique and I realised “Oh, that’s Lie Sang Bong!” Such a genuinely nice coincidence! He’s currently in Tokyo on holiday (plus I should imagine gathering up inspirations). We had a quick chat about the last Seoul Fashion Week - it’s going to be great to be able to go and see his next collection at Seoul Fashion Week SS2014!
